Employee Handbook

To help have a resource for understanding the employee expectations for the BCSD, this Employee Handbook has been developed as a reference for employees. In this, information from documents such as the BEA Master Contract, UE Master Contract, Board of Education Policy, etc. that apply to school employees have been placed into one location as a resource. This handbook is a general source of information and may not include every possible situation that could arise. It is not intended, and does not constitute a contract between the school district and employees. It is the employee’s responsibility to refer to the BEA Master Contract, UE Master Contract, and Board of Education policy and/or administrative procedures for further information.

Expectations for Professional Conduct

Because staff conduct has the potential to either support or undermine the stated mission, vision and beliefs of the district, the EPC was developed to provide all employees with a better understanding of:

  1. The district’s expectations for ethical staff behavior outlined in BCSD policies;

  2. Their responsibilities to our community for meeting these expectations;

  3. The types of incidents that demonstrate a failure to meet these expectations;

  4. The rationale for the district’s approach to staff misconduct; and

  5. Their rights before, during and after any disciplinary action.

Professional Development

The purpose of professional development is to provide a structured, supportive, and collaborative environment that will further the district’s comprehensive school improvement plan (CSIP) goals in order to increase student achievement. The framework of professional development is built upon the learning needs of students, the curriculum students are expected to learn, and the instructional strategies that make the curriculum accessible and understandable. It is essential that the design, implementation, and evaluation of instructional strategies selected for staff development align with district standards, grade level expectations, and benchmarks.

Each year, teachers are give an opportunity to expand their learning through the Teacher Quality projects. This year project proposals are due on Friday, September 15 and must be completed by December 8. The project application form is attached below and explains more about the process. Teachers will be paid up to 12 hours at $27.66/hour for work on the projects.
